AI Agent

Definition

An AI agent is a system that can work toward a goal instead of only producing a single response. It can decide what step to take next and, when connected safely, use tools, software or data to carry out actions.

Why it matters

Agents can move AI from “answering” to “doing.” That makes them useful for processes involving multiple steps, systems or decisions.

Example

A customer-service agent could read an enquiry, check available information, prepare an answer and route the case to a person when approval is needed.
